Media Harbour Düsseldorf

The Media Harbour ("Medienhafen") in Düsseldorf / Germany is known for its impressive architecture and it is a very interesting goal for a photo trip. Here you find some images from my last visit.

Colorium

The "Colorium" is a 17-storey high-rise in the Media Harbour. It was designed by the British architect William Allen Alsop and is nowadays a hotel. It has more than 2200 glass panels printed with different colors.

Flossi Sculptures

This image shows some of the "Flossi" sculptures attached to the Roggendorf building. These were created by the artist rosalie and have an height up to 4,20m.

Neuer Zollhof No. 2

The renowned architect Frank Gehry designed three buildings in deconstructivist architecture. This is building No. 2.

This is a view up to the Rheinturm tower and one of the three Gehry buildings.

The Rheinturm has 240,5m height and is a wonderful outlook point. (This image is an older one.)

Hotel with Cloud Reflections

This is the impressive Hyatt Hotel with reflections on its facade.

A Visit in the Cologne Zoo

Recently I visited the Cologne Zoo to take animal pictures with the tele lens. Here are some impressions from the zoo:

Elephant Family

15 Asian elephants live in the Cologne zoo in their natural family structure. In March 2017 a small elephant bull was born and he was named Moma.

Gorilla Silverback

This Gorilla Silverback image was taken before lots of visitors went to the monkeys.

The Boss

A male hamadryas baboon (Mantelpavian) is sitting on the top of the monkey cliff.

Taking a Nap...

The camel is taking a nap on a calm, warm and sunny holiday morning.

Cheetah on his Observation Hill

This image shows a cheetah lying on the observation hill of their enclosure. From there they are watching their surrounding under the shade of the trees on a hot summer afternoon.

Impressions from the Hessenpark Open-Air Museum

Here are some impressions from the open-air museum Hessenpark, which showcases e.g. more than 100 half-timbered buildings from the land of Hesse.

These images were taken during Easter time, so this is the "Osterbrunnen" at the market square. An Easter Well or Easter Fountain is a German tradition of decorating public wells or fountains with Easter eggs for Easter.

The next image shows a post mill, which is the earliest type of European windmills. The whole body of the mill is mounted on a single vertical post, around which it can be turned to bring the sails into the wind. They occur more frequently in Germany since the beginning of the fifteenth century and were normally used for grinding of grain.

And here is a beautiful old half-timbered house with ornaments on its facade.

There are a many more houses from the different parts of Hesse, which were dismantled at the original location and are rebuilt or will be reconstructed in the Hessenpark.
